Poem: If the Ancestors Could Cry

If the ancestors could cry,
You would feel the land pulse,
The heart beat of Mother Earth,
Through your being,

If the ancestors could cry,
The heavy burdens on the back of the generations,
The skin walkers,
Lifted from the shoulders,

The ancestors cry,
I've seen the brown glass bottle,
Broken on the ground,
Alcohol seeping through the soil,
The soil,

If the ancestors could cry,
Our souls would not convulse,
Our souls could fly,
We would be free,

The ancestors cry,
Our black hearts,
Our tears,
The ancestors do cry,
Through us.
