Poem: My Heart Beats

I feel so small,
I feel so powerless,
The buildings weigh on me,
My heart beats,
Vision,
My eyes can't focus,
Vision,
Dizziness,
My heart beats,
Students,
Pass in the hallway,
I feel so small,
So powerless,
My anger is like darts,
Except,
All those darts are directed,
Toward me,
My heart beats,
I am thinner,
I feel so small,
I feel so powerless,
My heart beats,
My anger,
I channel,
With a pen,
Into small pictures,
Onto paper,
That depict escape,
In my notebook,
In college,
I can't pay attention,
My anger is like a volcano,
My heart beats,
Convulsions,
Blackouts,
Isolation,
Small,
Sad black eyes,
I feel so small,
I feel so powerless,
My heart beats,
My heart beats,
My heart beats,
I am defiant,
Layers I remove,
I am not small,
I am not powerless,
I no longer carry the burdens,
Of my family,
Ancestors,
Prior generations,
To feel small,
To really feel small,
We must heal,
To heal,
We must feel the pain,
Of our family,
Of our ancestors,
Of generations past,
Really,
We must be brave enough,
To face our pain,
Of our family,
Ancestors,
Generations past,
My heart beats,
I am not small,
I am not powerless,
We are not small,
We are not powerless,
We have big hearts,
We have big spirits,
We are powerful,
Our hearts beat.
